Holistic Healing & Business Pivots: Luke Brambich | I’m In Control

The 360-Degree Approach: Healing the Person, Not Just the Injury with Luke Brambich
We live in a world of "band-aid fixes." If you’ve spent any time in the medical system, you know the routine: a ten-minute appointment, a quick script, and being sent on your way feeling like just another number on a chart.
When I sat down with Luke Brambich, we hit on a topic that is so close to my heart: Holistic, 360-degree wellness. Luke hasn't just built a successful allied health clinic; he has built a reputation for empathy, integrity, and treating the human, not just the symptom.
The Power of the Pivot
Luke’s journey started with a "no." Like many ambitious students, he wanted to be a physiotherapist straight out of school, but his grades didn't get him there. For many, that would be the end of the dream. But Luke pivoted.
Traditional Chinese Medicine, eventually earning a Bachelor in Exercise and Sports Science. What started as a "failure" to enter one degree led him to become a much more versatile practitioner.
The Coaching Takeaway: We often view a closed door as a sign to stop. In reality, it’s often an invitation to find a better, more unique path. Luke’s diverse background is exactly why his clinic can offer such a comprehensive range of services today.
Breaking the "Textbook" Cycle
One of the most refreshing parts of our chat was Luke's commitment to comprehensive consultations. While the standard medical model rushes patients in and out, Luke’s team at Native State prioritizes 45-minute sessions.
As a "professional patient" myself, I know how much is lost in a ten-minute window. You can’t discuss nutrition, stress levels, or emotional roadblocks in the time it takes to boil a kettle. Luke’s mission is to ensure patients are heard, not just diagnosed.
"It’s better off ripping off the band-aid, providing a plan, and moving forward with what the patient actually needs to hear, not just what they want to hear." — Luke Brambich
The "Pie Chart" of Your Mind
Luke shared a brilliant analogy about mental health using a pie chart. Your brain has a finite amount of "space" for thoughts. If the negative slices of the pie, fear, doubt, injury frustration, outweigh the positive, you will naturally lean toward a negative outcome.
To heal physically, you have to actively work to increase the "positive percentage" of that chart. This means:
Acknowledging the injury but focusing on the recovery plan.
Surrounding yourself with people who reinforce your capability.
Removing the fear of "what if" and replacing it with "what's next."
Vulnerability in "Tough" Spaces
My connection with Luke actually started in an unexpected place, his cricket club. I was invited to speak to a room full of men about my journey and what it truly means to be "in control."
Here is what I learned from that experience:
Facing the Nerves: I’ll be honest, I was incredibly nervous. It was my first all-male audience, and I wasn’t sure how a story about chronic illness and "effing dying" would resonate with a group of athletes.
Breaking the Barrier: The result was one of the most engaging talks of my career. The energy in the room shifted as soon as we started diving into the real stuff.
The Power of Connection: I was moved when younger guys, many under 20, came up to me afterward to share their own personal struggles.
A Superpower Rediscovered: As Luke noted, vulnerability is a superpower. When we stop trying to hide our fears, they lose their power over us.
Living and Dying by the Sword
Luke recently took a massive risk by transitioning his company to be solely his own after a long-term partnership ended. With his first child on the way, the "negatives" in the pie chart were shouting loudly.
He shared a piece of advice from a mate that changed his perspective: "Would you rather look back in ten years and say you gave it a go, or be 70 years old and kicking yourself because you were too scared to try?"
He chose to take control. He chose to pivot. He chose to live and die by his own sword rather than someone else's.
